New Day - New Thing

Speaking as a person who's lousy at keeping promises made to moi, I promise not to promise me anything more, ever! I will, however, urge, whine at, coax, order, and nag me to get out of my great big rut and try at least one new thing every day.

I remember a few years ago taking a new route home from work. So what if it took twice as long? What was I hurrying home to anyway, housework? I took a back country road (when there was still "back country" in Olathe), and came upon some cows in a field. Some had freckles on their faces. I didn't know cows could have freckles on their faces. These cows were so cute they made me laugh, and I was in a great mood the rest of the day.

See, the thing is . . . you keep doing what you've always done, you're gonna get what you've always got. So, try something new. It might be a new recipe, a new author, or a new way of tackling an old problem. I have many of those. And a bucket list as long as my arm. As a dear man once said to me when I mentioned I'd like to learn a certain skill: "How old are you? Hmmm, you'd better get on it then."  Sigh! So right.

Even at my rather advanced age (Hey, most days I still feel 30), I am sadly still a work in progress. I'd like to be completed one day, so I can enjoy myself. That's my goal for 2012, to either be complete or enjoy myself. Sometimes I take myself too seriously too.

Happy New Year!
